HANGMAN game to learn Irish

Extremely popular game for vocabulary and just for fun both on paper and on screen.

In our Hangman for Irish learners the computer chooses a piece of Irish vocabulary from the selected topic and you attempt to guess it by clicking letters on a keyboard. The game is set on a beach, and wrong guesses darken the sky and sea and more clouds sweep across until...well, try it and see what happens!

How to play Hangman to learn Irish

Play Hangman to learn Irish at learn-irish.net

  1. Select "Hangman" from the Irish games page.
  2. On the settings screen you can change topic or click "PLAY" to start the game.
  3. The scene is a beach - there is a Irish keyboard and empty numbered spaces for a Irish word or phrase.
  4. Spaces between words are marked by an underscore ( _ ) while other punctuation (.,-') is filled in for you.
  5. Guess letters in the word or phrase by clicking keys on the keyboard.
  6. Correct guesses add that letter to the appropriate spaces in the word or phrase.
  7. Wrong guesses add pieces to the gallows and hangman. Wrong letters are displayed above the keyboard with a cross next to them.
  8. Continue guessing until you complete the Irish word or phrase, or your character is hung.
  9. If you win, you get to see the happy man animation and to hear some clapping.
  10. If you lose, no animation, no music, just some gloomy boings - switch them off by clicking on the gallows.
  11. You can play multiple rounds and the program will keep your score against the computer.
